《红楼梦》谶语文学色彩浓厚,形式丰富多样,具有厚重的文化底蕴和鲜明的民族特色。译学界目前从译者行为视角出发探究其谶语英译的研究尚不多见,本文基于译者行为批评理论,借助艾克西拉文化专有项翻译策略,将红楼谶分为四类,从译内和译外两个角度分析杨宪益、霍克斯两家译本隐藏在《红楼梦》谶语英译策略背后的译者行为,进而探究其社会性动因,旨在说明在翻译过程中根据翻译目的把握好“求真”与“务实”的平衡是《红楼梦》谶语英译的关键,以期对中国古典文学作品“走出去”提供一定借鉴。The prophecies in Hong Lou Meng have rich literary color and diverse forms, as well as profound cultural deposits and distinct national characteristics. In the field of translation, there are few studies on the English translation of the prophecies in it from the perspective of the translator’s behavior. Based on the translator behavior criticism, this paper classifies the prophecies in Hong Lou Meng into four categories with the help of the translation strategy of Aixelá’s Culture-Specific items, then analyzes the translator’s behavior hidden behind the English translation strategies of the versions translated by Yan Xianyi and Hawkes from both the in-translation and out-of-translation aspects, and then explores its social motivation. The final purpose is to show that the balance between “truth-seeking” and “utility-attaining” is the key to the English translation of the prophecies in Hong Lou Meng in the process of translation, and to provide some reference for Chinese classical literature works to “going global”.
