中国的诗歌历史悠久,既有深刻的思想性,又有独特的艺术性。在诗歌翻译的过程中,译者的主体性地位不容忽视。《山居秋暝》是唐代诗人王维山水田园诗的代表作,受到不少翻译家的青睐。本文以《山居秋暝》许渊冲先生和杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇以及汉学家威利斯·巴恩斯通的三个英译本为研究对象,通过分析和比较,梳理评析三个英译本里译者主体性在诗歌翻译过程中的体现。Chinese poetry has a long-standing history, characterized by its profound ideological depth and unique artistic qualities. In the process of translating poetry, the translator’s subjectivity plays an indispensable role. Autumn Evening in the Mountains, a representative work of Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei’s landscape and pastoral poetry, has been favored by many translators. This article takes the three English translations of Autumn Evening in the Mountains by Xu Yuanchong, the couple Yang Xianyi and Dai Naidie, and the sinologist Willis Barnstone as the research subjects. Through analysis and comparison, it evaluates the manifestation of the translators’ subjectivity in the process of translating the poem.

Firstly, the paper introduces the definition and characteristics of maritime regulations, including their wide application in the international maritime transport sector and the protection of ship and seafarer rights. Then, the paper discusses the concept and importance of translator subjectivity in the translation of maritime regulations, pointing out that translator subjectivity plays a crucial role in accurately conveying the intent of regulations, dealing with legal language challenges, and addressing cross-cultural differences. Next, the paper summarizes the important manifestations of translator subjectivity in the translation of maritime regulations, including demonstrating the translator’s professional competence in choosing appropriate translation strategies, exercising subjective judgment in translating legal terms and clauses, and flexibly using language expression to convey the essence of regulations. 《聊斋志异》作为中国古典文学的瑰宝,其深厚的文化底蕴和独特的艺术魅力使其在跨文化交流中占据重要地位。自从1842年被引入英语世界后,这部作品经历了多个版本的翻译和传播,其中以翟理斯的英译本最具影响力和学术价值,成为研究的焦点。本研究以《聊斋志异·卷一·长清僧》中翟理斯的英文翻译版本和但明伦的评注版本为研究对象,从词汇选择、句子构造和语篇结构等多方面,深入分析翟理斯在翻译活动中译者主体性的行为表征。研究同时分析翟理斯英译的不足及原因,期望能为中国典籍的全球传播提供一些参考和启示。As a treasure of Chinese classical literature, the Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio occupies an important position in cross-cultural communication due to its profound cultural heritage and unique artistic charm. Since its introduction to the English-speaking world in 1842, this work has undergone numerous translations and dissemination, among which Herbert Allen Giles’ English version stands out as the most influential and academically valuable, becoming a focus of research. This study takes Giles’ English translation of The Buddhist Priest of Ch’ang-Ch’ing (from Volume One of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio) and Tan Ming-lun’s commentary version as the research objects, conducting an in-depth analysis of Giles’ manifestation of translator’s subjectivity in translation activities from aspects such as vocabulary selection, sentence structure, and text organization. The study also analyzes the shortcomings and reasons behind Giles’ English translation, aiming to provide some references and insights for the global dissemination of Chinese classics.
